Yarra connection flows

SHIRE of Yarra Ranges mayor Tim Heenan will lay a wreath on behalf of the shire at the 65th anniversary memorial to the 138 sailors of the HMAS Yarra on Sunday.
The shire forged an allegiance with the $200 million Huon Class coastal minehunter Yarra IV in 2003.
The first Yarra, a torpedo boat destroyer, was launched back in 1910. Along with the Parramatta it was one of the two founding ships of the Royal Australian Navy and was named after the Yarra River.
Cr Heenan said it was an honour to be associated with the Yarra.
“There’s a strong connection through the ship being named after the Yarra River and it’s very fitting that we’ve continued that connection through the 2003 official adoption of the Yarra IV.
