WELL-KNOWN social justice campaigner, Fr Joe Caddy will launch the book, Communities Unite, a collection of more than 30 real stories highlighting the power and determination of Yarra Ranges communities, at Yarra Valley Vineyard Christian Fellowship on Thursday 24 April.
Yarra Ranges mayor, Tim Heenan said the book tells the tales of people who have worked together to bring about change in their community, and the lessons to be learned from their experiences.
“It is a celebration of achievements and an inspiration for others to embark on similar journeys,” Cr Heenan said.
Fr Caddy is vitally interested in matters of social justice and poverty, and advocates regularly for policies and programs, which will strengthen families and communities. Since 2003 he has been co-convenor with Rhonda Galbally of the highly successful annual conference, Communities in Control.
He is also a member of the ministerial advisory committee for Victorian Communities.
The book launch will be followed by an interactive session discussing community-strengthening issues relevant to the shire.
A light lunch will be served and all community members are invited to attend this free event, which is supported by the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Yarra Valley Vineyard Christian Fellowship is at 60 Cavehill Road, Lilydale, and the event runs from 10am to 1pm.
RSVP is essential, to Mandy Black on 1300 368 333, or m.black@yarraranges.vic.gov.au.
