LOCAL MPs have paid an emotional tribute to former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks, who announced his retirement from politics last Friday.
Seymour MP Ben Hardman described Mr Bracks as ‘a wonderful Premier’ who put the heart back in Victoria.
“Steve has left as Premier at a time when all of Victoria is benefiting from his careful economic management and social conscience,” Mr Hardman said.
“I have great respect for Steve’s wisdom and wish him and his family a healthy and happy life.”
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said she was ‘deeply saddened’ by the Premier’s resignation but respected his decision to do so.
“Steve has been a brilliant Premier and an effective and decisive leader,” Ms Lobato said.
“It is a relentlessly demanding job that requires enormous sacrifice that can take its toll, especially on families.”
It is believed Mr Bracks chose to step down for his family who have been under the spotlight since his 18-year-old son Nick was involved in a drink driving accident.
Mr Bracks had been Premier for eight years before he announced his resignation as the Leader of the Parliamentary Labor Party and Williamstown MP.
Deputy Premier John Thwaites has also resigned allowing Treasurer John Brumby to take on the leadership.
Mr Hardman and Ms Lobato said they were looking forward to working with new Premier John Brumby to continue improving State Government services.
