Nurse inspires crowd

By Dion Teasdale
THE Yarra Glen Red Cross (YGRC) unit held its annual general meeting late last month and the occasion was marked by the attendance of a special guest speaker.
Author and nurse, Brenda Cawte spoke at the meeting about her career as a qualified District Nurse and about her passion for writing.
Ms Cawte spoke about starting her nursing training at the age of 39 and gave the gathering of around 25 people an insight into the working life of a nurse.
YGRC vice president Sharon Stephens said Ms Cawte enthralled the crowd with tales from her training and work experiences.
“Brenda told us about the days when she had to go out and do house visits and about what it was like working in hospitals,” she said.
“She gave a fantastic presentation and is a lovely speaker. Everyone found her talk inspiring and motivating.”
Ms Stephens said the crowd enjoyed afternoon tea after Ms Cawte’s presentation.
Yarra Glen Red Cross, which holds fund raising events, raffles and special appeals every year, has raised more than $3000 in the past financial year, Ms Stephens said.
She also said some of the group’s members belong to an Emergency Catering Team, which supports other emergency services in the area.
