A TOTAL of $2 million will be spent this financial year on resurfacing 40 kilometres of local roads as part of the Shire of Yarra Ranges Road Resealing Program.
Mayor Monika Keane said the resurfacing program was designed to improve road safety and was part of the shire’s ongoing maintenance program involving more than 800 kilometres of sealed roads.
“The resurfacing program plays an important role in extending the life of sealed roads and in safeguarding motorists’ safety,” Cr Keane said.
Roads in the Yarra Valley included in this year’s program are Lawler and Rudduck Lanes in Coldstream, Old Healesville Road, Dixons Creek, and Old Fernshaw Road in Healesville.
Upper Yarra roads included in the sealing program are Cairnview Court, Hilltop Rise and Mathers Avenue in Launching Place, Hoddle Street in Yarra Junction, Shirley Crescent in Woori Yallock, Station Road in Wesburn and Big Pats Creek Road in Warburton East.
Cr Keane said the shire’s sealed road network was regularly inspected and prioritised according to wear and tear and traffic use.
The roads included in this year’s program have been independently assessed by a member of the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association.
“The assessment also includes the most appropriate treatment and the type of seal to be applied,” Cr Keane said.
“Different treatments and asphalt types are used depending on a range of factors including the road’s construction, how old it is, whether it’s an intersection and the amount and type of traffic that uses the road.”
