IN THE final day’s play for 2005, as the YVCA goes into the Christmas break the weather came in and many matches were delayed and further interrupted during the day.
A great deal of work was put in by Yarra Junction’s players in an effort to get play underway and when it did, some two hours late, Seville’s Andrew Kay with 5/31, and Steve Bover with 4/26, ripped through the batting line-up dismissing Yarra Junction for just 87 in reply to Seville’s 146.
Warburton Millgrove, chasing Yarra Panthers’ 142 all out, made 5/157 with Brent Summers on 80 and Tim Mckail on 34. Rodger Fernarndo, taking 3/23, was the best of the bowlers for the Panthers.
In Wandin v Healesville, disappointingly no scores were forwarded by the Wandin Cricket Club for the second week running. Heavy fines will be imposed.
Silvan (214) v Mt Evelyn was washed out, while Coldstream with 209 on the board from last weekend defeated Woori Yallock by dismissing them for only 167. Michael King reached 64 before falling and Andrew Ferguson 36, while Sedgeman with 4/26, and Liam Doughty with 3/49, were best for the Coldstream team with the ball.
In the Strachan Shield Reserve match of the day with first playing second, Seville was chasing Yarra Junction’s total of 186. Seville lost six wickets for 218 at stumps with leading batsman being Richard Dicello on 109 not out.
Healesville at 9/138 declared, defeated Warburton Millgrove with 92. Will Maile with 4/14, Ben Slater, 3/13, Gavin Waixel, 3/37 and B. Winzer, 23.
Mt Evelyn on 185 with Tony Pahi 3/30, Brad Darvell, 41, Daniel Theile, 38, lost to Silvan, 207 – Tony Pahi with 62, A. Thornhill, 43, and Zac Booth bowled well to take 6/46.
Woori Yallock with 8/163cc, Neil Worlley, 39 not out, and Dave Mock, 26, Steve Pegg, 2/28, James Pegg, 2/44, lost to Coldstream on 253, M. Neal, 48, Travis Hulm, 39, and John Ferguson 3/39.
In the RA Finger Trophy’s final round before the break, Marysville on 10/65 and 6/44 with Jess Ridd 7/31 and 4/17, lost to Hoddles Creek on 10/214 with B. Derix, 111, J. Derix, 38, Josh Stewart, 4/63, and A. Stanton 3/52.
Powelltown on 203 with B. Simpson, 34, C. Neale, 64, defeated Launching Place on 93 and 70, J. Long, 24, S. Dennily, 27, and Chris Neale took 10 wickets for the match with two five wicket hauls – 5/50 and 5/39.
Brendon Green also had a good match with figures of 4/36 and 3/29.
The other matches were affected by the weather.
