BEING chosen to represent the Dandenong Region in a statewide under 15 netball competition has been a career highlight so far for Upper Yarra netballers, Ingeborg Baselier and Erin Williams.
The girls, who have been playing for five and eight years respectively, said the experience was both daunting and rewarding.
“We tried out against 50 other girls from around the region and were thrilled to be chosen. To get two representatives in the 12 person team from this area was unbelievable,” Ingeborg said. They started training in May and had just six sessions with their new teammates before playing in 12 games over two days against teams from 15 districts around the state.
In a game, which relies enormously on anticipation and knowing almost instinctively your teammates’ play, the girls said they felt they had settled very well into the team and enjoyed the matches.
Both have played in tournaments representing the Upper Yarra before, but never in a state team. They said having the opportunity to play at such a high level of competition was a valuable experience.
