“HOW could you resist it?” Jan Basso asks. And, that’s pretty much her explanation for stopping to pick up this scruffy, but lovable teddy bear from the side of the road.
Jan said she was driving home along the Healesville Yarra Glen Road last week when something caught her eye. Lying in the gutter, wet to the bone and a little glassy eyed (well, who wouldn’t be?) was Blue Teddy BT to his new friends.
Jan said she doesn’t usually collect things from the side of the road.
“I suppose it was sort of maternal… ,” she ventures.
“I’ve had a few teddies in my time, and I thought of my own children, and grand children and how they just love their teddies and I had to stop.
“It was sort of sad,” she added. “I just couldn’t bear to think that some little child might be missing it.”
Well, BT is now dry, warm and safe at the Mail office in Healesville, and getting lots of hugs from Mail receptionist, Rose. Nonetheless, BT is keen to be reunited with its owner.
There’ll be no recriminations “I told you putting me on the roof was a bad idea” or “No! hanging out the car window is NOT fun”!
If Blue Teddy is yours’ or belongs to someone you know, call Mountain Views Mail on 5962 5800, and talk to Rose.
BT’s plight hard to bear
