Show with a flourish

By Melissa Meehan
TARRAWARRA Museum of Art will officially open Kate Rohde’s exhibition Flourish on Sunday 20 April at 4.30pm.
Ms Rohde has produced a new installation specifically for the TarraWarra Museum of Art North Gallery.
The installation emulates the fantastic and stylised portrayals of the outdoors and, more specifically, of a European garden that has been inspired by paintings from the Rococo period.
The elements of the garden will include a series of tall hedges dividing the gallery into four separate and intimate spaces.
In these enclosures, Rohde will build vitrines that will feature flora and fauna motifs associated with the seasons.
Rohde’s elaborate work is known for its utilisation of craft and hardware materials, including resin, fake fur and paper mache.
She claims to have “created a collection of zoological, botanical and geological specimens which, rather than factually representing natural history, takes more of a playful, decorative approach”.
Kate Rohde: Flourish will be on display from 20 April until 20 July together with two new exhibitions that will focus on the museum and its collection in the remaining galleries.
