THE SHIRE of Yarra Ranges is inviting submissions on a proposed Planning Scheme Amendment and planning application for a supermarket in Yarra Glen.
The shire’s director of planning, James Larmour-Reid, said plans for a proposed supermarket and specialty shops as well as a wetlands area would be on display for public comment until the end of August.
Mr Larmour-Reid said the amendment applied to a 0.7 hectare parcel of land located on the eastern side of Bell Street, adjoining the existing commercial shopping strip.
“The Planning Scheme Amendment proposes to rezone the land from its current Residential 1 Zone to a Business 1 Zone to enable the development and use of the land for a supermarket, speciality shops and car parking,” he said.
Mr Larmour-Reid said a significant portion of the site would also be developed as publicly accessible open space featuring native vegetation and a wetlands area.
People interested in finding out more about the proposed Planning Scheme Amendment and planning permit are able to view a copy from any of the shire’s Community Links or from the shire’s website at www.yarraranges.vic.com.au.
Information will also be on display at the Yarra Glen Memorial Hall on Saturday 12 and 19 August, between 9am and noon.
Representatives from the shire and the developer will be in attendance to answer any questions.
Mr Larmour-Reid said public exhibition of the amendment and draft planning permit would enable anyone interested in the proposed development to decide whether they wished to make a submission about it.
Submissions are required to be lodged with the shire by 28 August. Details about submissions can be obtained by contacting Kris Hansen at the shire on 1300 368 333.
