FAMILY history buffs are invited to visit the Museum of Lillydale and the Lilydale Library during February and March for a series of special lectures and an historical exhibition.
Shire of Yarra Ranges councillor Len Cox said the partnership between the Library and the Museum highlighted the work done by both organisations to bring to life the family and local history of the area.
“Discovering our roots has become very important and knowing where to access information is always beneficial,” he said.
“The family history theme centres round an exhibition of Lucy’s Story: a private life revealed through public records, at the Museum until 2 March.”
Cr Cox said there would also be a series of lectures dealing with access to public records, how to start researching your own family history and a history of Lilydale and the surrounding area.
“Daniel Wilksch from the Public Records Office will open the doors to a resource available to family history enthusiasts, provide information on the office’s procedures and how people can use their services in a lecture on Friday, 17 February,” he said.
“There will also be sessions at the Lilydale library covering the resources available there.”
Cr Cox said the lectures were open to all those thinking about researching their family history and bookings were essential.
Information about the exhibition and specific lecture times is available from the Museum of Lillydale on 9294 6313.
