RESIDENTS can learn the ins and outs of composting and find out how wriggly worms can help save the environment at a free workshop on 10 May as part of International Composting Awareness Week.
International Composting Awareness Week, from 4-10 May, is a week of exciting activities and events to help increase awareness about the importance of composting.
Yarra Ranges councillor Len Cox said the free workshop, organised by the Shire of Yarra Ranges in partnership with EnviroCom Australia, offered participants free information and advice on composting, worm farming and using a Bokashi bucket.
“The workshop is ideal for anyone considering setting up a compost bin or worm farm, or for those already operating a composting system that would like some advice,” he said.
He said home composting helped not only to reduce gas emissions but also improved soil quality.
The composting workshop will be held at the Lillydale Lake Community Room on Saturday, 10 May from 1.30-3.30pm.
Participants will go into a draw to win a fully assembled worm farm complete with worms.
To register for the workshop, contact Nicole Burke on 9703 5288 or email nicole .burke@envirocom.com.au.
A range of compost bins and worm farm products are available for sale at the shire’s community links.
A composting display will be on exhibition at the Montrose Library from 1-16 May, coinciding with International Composting Awareness Week.
