THE Healesville Racecourse Market will start its new season under new management.
The Healesville Community Market Committee is now running the market, which has operated for a number of years in a picturesque setting beneath the magnificent racecourse pin oaks.
Secretary Ken Sanderson said the committee is excited at the opportunities available to build up the market for the benefit of the local community.
He feels one of the keys to success is attracting new stallholders to add to the diversity.
Mr Sanderson would like to hear from anyone who is interested in setting up a stall starting at the next market on Sunday 21 September.
He says the committee is glad to make grants to groups on application. Since establishing the popular community market in the River Street car park in the early 80s, the committee has donated well over $150,000 to local community groups and projects.
“There is very likely not an organisation in town that we have not donated to in the time we have been doing that market,” Mr Sanderson said.
It’s a contribution the small, hard-working committee is justly proud of.
They have every reason to be proud of the reputation the community market has achieved as one of the most consistently diverse and vibrant markets in the Yarra Valley.
Now, the task ahead of the committee is to weave their magic down at the racecourse.
The Racecourse Market has a very different atmosphere – relaxed and ‘crafty.’
The shady environment, limitless parking and stalls which include a huge variety of plants, craftsman made items from cards and garden ornaments to leatherwork, jewellery and clothing, home-grown produce and preserves all create a great atmosphere for a Sunday stroll.
The racecourse has benefited over the years from providing the venue and now, under the new management that community benefit is set to flow even wider. The committee is inviting anyone who has benefited from the market to make a date for the third Sunday of the month to visit the Healesville Racecourse Market.
The markets between now and December are a great opportunity for some early Christmas shopping and to provide stallholders and the committee with a strong start to a new beginning.
For further information phone Ken Sanderson on 5962 5875. Groups wanting to apply for a grant can write to the Healesville Community Market Committee c/o Ken Sanderson, 61 Ryans Road, Healesville 3777.
