COMPILING any football club history is a big job. But when that club no longer exists, the degree of difficulty goes up a notch or two.
Coldstream resident Bill Metcalfe is undaunted as he tackles the history of the Marysville Football Club.
The history will cover more than 50 years from 1931 to 1983.
Marysville played in the Yarra Valley Football League from 1949 to 1965.
“It was a very competitive club, seldom missing the finals and winning premierships in 1959 and 1960,” Bill said.
In 1966, the club joined the newly combined Yarra Valley Mountain Districts League and was eventually placed in Second Division where they won the 1973 premiership.
The club disbanded in 1983.
Prior to World War II, Marysville won five premierships in six seasons in the Alexandra-Mansfield district football competition.
“All these facts support my belief that Marysville Football Club merits a published history,” said Mr Metcalfe.
He is wanting to make contact with anyone who can add to the story.
“I am hoping there are people out there who may have photographs or old football records relating to the club,” he said.
Documents would not need to be removed, just copied,” he added.
