HEALESVILLE High School student Jess Murty has finished her high school athletics with gold.
Jess, 17, took first place in the Under 21 Girls’ Javelin in the High Schools State Athletics held at Olympic Park in October.
While basketball is Jess’s sport of choice, she has represented the school at shotput and javelin each year.
Jess won with a throw of 31.61 metres, her best ever effort.
“I have always enjoyed my sport and taking part in the athletics. Every other year I have come second or fourth and to win this year, without training was quite exciting,” she said.
“To know I have the kind of skill to beat girls who put time into training was quite cool.”
Jess said while javelin has always been something she has participated in for fun, it was a sport she may consider tackling in a more serious way in the future.
Jess also participated in the Under 21 Girls’ Shot Put coming in 8th place.
Fellow student Michael Davern also did well gaining a 7th place in the Under 15 Boys’ Shot Put with a 12.56 metre throw.
