THE Warburton Millgrove Sports/Football Club annual auction will be held this Sunday.
The auction, to be held at Warburton Recreation Reserve, has become a much-awaited event for keen bargain hunters. It will be the 27th auction since 1982, and raises money to help the community.
The auction-day profit proceeds will go towards the sports complex, which is home to Warburton-Millgrove football and cricket clubs as well as a number of other community groups.
Robert Morter, who has been involved in the auction from its beginning, said the complex was available for hire at a very reasonable cost, and that the sports club committee liked to help out the community by having a place where it could hold events.
He has no doubt the auction is a great community cause. “It’s about assisting community and local groups,’’ he said.
The club wants to put in new carpet and vinyl flooring at the complex as soon as possible. One of its sponsors, Warburton Community Bendigo Bank, has also donated to help the club.
Last year’s auction raised $5500 and Mr Morter is expecting an even better result this year. “Could be a big, big year,’’ he said.
Goods available for the auction, which will start at 10am sharp, have in recent years included garden furnishings, agricultural machinery, vehicles, motor mowers, chainsaws, toys, bric-a-brac, motor bikes, antiques, plants, bicycles, household utensils, building materials, tools and a selection of one-off items too many to mention.
MasterCard, Visa and EFTPOS will be accepted for payment.
There will be stalls run by local community groups and sports clubs to add to the community atmosphere and provide even more opportunities for bargain hunters.
