CHRISTMAS could not have come at a more inconvenient time for Upper Yarra RSL.
The RSL is in the midst of an exciting redevelopment which will provide a modern, expanded venue for members, Upper Yarra residents and visitors.
So, how do you work Christmas around all that?
According to manager Lyn Witnish and her crew, you just provide the same friendly, relaxing atmosphere the chef Tyrone McKenzie is famous for, and add liberal sprinklings of good cheer and festivity.
The RSL, located in off Settlement Road in Yarra Junction, has always been a popular choice for Christmas parties, work break-ups and family get-togethers.
“It’s always a busy time of year and we’re looking forward to providing the same end of year celebrations that people have come to enjoy in the lead-up to Christmas,” Lyn said.
The bistro is open for lunch and dinner every day and bookings are being taken now for Christmas parties and break-ups.
“If people have a particular menu in mind, or need us to create a menu to meet a budget, all they need do is ring here and talk with Tyrone or myself,” Lyn said.
The venue is closed on Christmas Day, but for those who like to stick with tradition, a traditional Christmas menu is available as part of the festive season offerings.
The RSL is a popular meeting place for locals and has a firm family-friendly focus.
A children’s playground is located in the grounds and there is plenty of open, shaded grassed area for kids to run – skip and jump if they want – and generally enjoy being kids.
Lyn said families and groups could have a picnic lunch in the grounds, but were not permitted to bring in alcohol which was available from the bar.
Lyn says Upper Yarra RSL management and staff were looking forward to making Christmas a happy and festive time for all their patrons.
Part of that is the annual Christmas raffle, which they have put together with three fantastic prize packages guaranteed to include a special something for everyone.
As Christmas is about giving, the Upper Yarra RSL is also giving people a chance to give!
Their Buy a Brick program aimed at supporting the renovations and extension of the facility provides a great opportunity for a unique gift.
Bricks can be purchased for $50 bronze, $200 silver, $500 gold and $1000 platinum. The name of the supporter will be recorded on the Brick Board as a lasting acknowledgement of the support given.
To make a booking, or to find out more about the Buy a Brick Program, phone the RSL on 5967 1771.
