Crash kills couple

FRIENDS and family of Jesse Wilson and Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Walker will this week farewell the teenage couple killed at Chirnside Park on 15 November.
Jesse, 17, from Seville, and his girlfriend, Liz, 18, from Lilydale, died when the car Liz was driving crashed on the Maroondah Highway at 10.25pm on the Saturday.
The deaths have devastated the couple’s families and many friends.
Liz had just finished year 12 at Tintern Girls Grammar and was highly regarded in the Yarra Valley equestrian community as a talented rider.
Jesse, a popular and talented member of the Seville Junior Football Club, played his first season with Seville Football Club’s under 18s this year. He had had just taken up an apprenticeship.
Liz’s friend Faye Hinchcliffe said the tragedy had devastated the couple’s many friends.
“We all keep hoping we will wake up and it’s a really bad dream,” she said.
“We are still trying to come to terms with the fact that we won’t see them again.”
Police say Liz was driving her Saab sedan west on Maroondah Highway when she attempted a right turn into Sheppards Lane, colliding with a car travelling east on the highway.
Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said Jesse died at the scene. Liz was conveyed to Maroondah Hospital but was pronounced dead.
The driver and occupant of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit is looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Funeral services will be held for Liz on Wednesday and for Jesse onThursday.
