HEALESVILLE Primary School students achieved their goal of having fun and learning about netball last Tuesday, with help from the Melbourne Vixens netball team.
Each year level participated in a 40-minute active workshop that demonstrated the skills, rules and manoeuvres used in netball.
Vixens Wendy Jacobsen and Sam Holt with Healesville Netball Club intended the workshops to be a fun way of educating students about the sport.
Healesville Netball Club president Yvette Stanley runs Fun Net for younger players aged 8 to 10 years and encourages budding players to give netball a go.
“Netball creates team play and it involves all sorts of coordination skills. At this age it’s all about fun and being active,” Ms Stanley said.
Jacobsen advised young netballers to keep their options open when deciding what position they want to play and, importantly, to enjoy themselves whatever sport they choose to play.
“You have to have fun, if you don’t enjoy something you won’t stick with it,” she said.
“Play all different positions when you’re young because you never know how tall you’ll grow,” she laughed.
