YARRA Glen Medical Precinct Group is hopeful it will soon secure the services of a doctor for the Cameron House Medical Centre.
YGMPG chairwoman Dorothy Barber said the group had been in negotiations with a female doctor who is now working in the Yarra Valley as a locum.
“That locum work is due to finish in February and we are quite confident we will be able to come to an arrangement,” Ms Barber said.
Ms Barber said the doctor lived in the region and had worked in the Australian hospital system for the past 20 years.
Yarra Glen has been without a doctor since the closure of the Yarra Valley Clinic’s Yarra Glen surgery in September 2007.
In another boost to the group’s morale, Ms Barber said the Shire of Yarra Ranges had provided a grant to cover three months rent on Cameron House and to enable the group to formulate a business plan.
