Matches cancelled

By Keith Thompson
ONLY the junior grades played cricket in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association on Saturday as these matches were started and completed early in the day before the heat and threat of fires took hold as mid-day approached.
The seniors’ games were cancelled by the YVCA executive board just prior to the 11am deadline for placing of information onto the recorded information service.
Next week in the Strachan Shield round 12 will commence with fourth-placed Wandin hosting first-placed Mt Evelyn in the match of the round.
Wandin are coming home with a bit of a wet sail but will have their work cut out against a tight Mt Evelyn team.
The Silvan ‘slugs’ will host Coldstream, which is seventh v ninth –strangely enough it is still possible that Silvan could make the four if every little thing falls their way, we will just have to wait and see with two rounds of the home-and-away series left.
From Monday 16 February the VCCL VB Melbourne Country Week will be played on various premier and sub-district cricket grounds, the YVCA fixture for the 4 matches are: Monday 16 v Gisborne at Richmond, Tuesday 17 v Benalla at Kew, Wednesday 18 v West Gippsland at Frankston -AH Butler Oval, Thursday 19 v Ferntree Gully at Ringwood – Jubilee Park – Russell Lucas Oval, Friday 20 the division 3 final will be played at Ormond Cricket Ground.
