YARRA Junction Football and Netball Club’s Twenty20 cricket challenge with the Yarra Junction Cricket Club in February raised over $3000 for the bushfire appeal.
The match attracted a very large crowd who enjoyed a great game of cricket.
Event organisers Stacey Cooper and Simone Harbinson proved that where there’s a will there is definitely a way, and organised a variety of raffles, activities for children, and, of course, the cricket match.
“The match was won by one run by the footballers,” said club spokeswoman Sally Brennan.
“However, there were some noticeable defections of cricketers to the football side.”
Ms Brennan said the spirit of the occasion was festive and fun, but that recent tragedies were very much on the minds of the participants.
“Even as the game was played, the smoke from the fires at Healesville was visible, a reminder that the seriousness of the fire season is still with us,” she said.
