Ayla achieves aim

FOUR, three, two, one …. zero!
Ayla De Rooy made up her mind she was going all the way with her head shave as part of the World’s Greatest Shave … and that’s exactly what she did.
Ayla, 10, and fellow Woori Yallock Primary School student nine-year-old Aaron Evans went under the clippers on Thursday to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Aaron is a veteran of four WGS events but it was a first for Ayla who was determined to raise more than $1000 for the cause.
Aaron was first to lose his dark, wavy locks, with the help of local hairdressers Kelly Stokes and Jodi Fraser of Country Rose Salon. He raised $70 and says he is happy to be able to contribute to the search for a cure for cancer.
Ms Stokes said it is a huge thing for a girl of Ayla’s age to go bald so they had agreed on a progressive shave.
With encouragement from her friends, and her own resolve to see her plan through, Ayla dismissed any suggestion that a ‘number 1’ was good enough.
“No … zero” she insisted.
“I have been wanting to do this for years because I know of people with leukaemia and how much they are suffering,” she said.
Ayla said she had had good support from her friends at school and thanked all the people who had sponsored and supported her.
Her face lit up when her mum announced total donations of $1200 … and growing.
“I’m happy with that,” she said.
