Low-key celebration

THE scene will be characteristically low-key when the Dixons Creek community gets together as a community for the first time since the February fires.
The community of about 150 families was hard-hit with a number of families losing their homes, farm sheds and equipment.
Agriculture, viticulture and tourism businesses have also suffered both through the direct impact of the fires and the aftermath.
Resident Jean Shortis is organising the get-together which she said is part of the recovery process, a chance to have a chat, a catch-up and to an opportunity to thank local CFA members.
“Neighbours have got together but because we are a long, drawn-out community along the highway we have not had the opportunity to get together as a community to thank the CFA for what they have done, and to just catch up with friends and neighburs,” Ms Shortis said.
Dixons Creek residents are invited to go along to the Dixons Creek Reserve between 11am and 4pm for a sausage sizzle – byo chairs, drinks and nibblies.
For further information phone Ms Shortis on 0418 993 998.
