Healesville Living and Learning Centre’s Hannah Sky said she would like to invite anyone who has lost their home due to the recent bushfires to join weekly kitchen sessions.
“We wanted to open the invitation to those who do not have cooking facilities due to fires as well as the wider community,” Ms Sky said.
Ms Sky said she thought it would be nice for those who no longer have a kitchen to be able to join the scheduled classes and have the facilities to work with.
“We can offer to show those who’ve lost their own kitchens how to cook some really nice food, in a decent sized kitchen and stove and with good company,” she said.
The community kitchen was initially set up as being a social activity, learning experience and outlet for people dealing with chronic illness, financial difficulties and social isolation.
Each week volunteer and teacher Yvonne Clarke shows the participants how to prepare meals that cost around $2.50 per serving, in Healesville Memorial Hall kitchen.
