A NINE-GOAL haul from Warburton’s Scott Muir was a highlight of the Burra’s Division 1 MVDFL round 18 clash with Mount Evelyn, but it wasn’t enough to get his side over the line.
Mount Evelyn 21.14.140 defeated Warburton Millgrove 18.7.115 in a high scoring, entertaining display from both sides.
Mount Evelyn seemed to have more avenues to goal with James Charles booting six and Kane Jones with five.
Mount Evelyn only held a four-point lead going into the final term, and they needed to come home strong and show some finals’ form for next week – and that’s just what they did, with a six-goal-to-three last quarter to win by a hard-fought 25 points.
Best: Mount Evelyn: Jarrad Barden, James Charge and Paul Tempest. Warburton Millgrove: Michael Walker, Grant Newing and Liam Barnard.
BOTH Silvan and Alexandra have had seasons they would rather forget: Alex didn’t break through for a win and Silvan was bitterly disappointing after last season’s premiership.
This game was about pride and Silvan finished the season off the better with a big win. Silvan’s Owen Weatherly was superb for the winners booting seven goals and being easily the Cat’s best.
Alex still battled it out, with Daniel Steel and Adam Oakley showing great pride for their side.
Silvan 18.23.131 d Alexandra 9.16.70.
Best: Silvan: O. Weatherley, J. Cuzzupi, D. Carswell. Alexandra: D. Steel, A. Oakley, J. Kidd.
Upwey Tecoma was in complete control from the opening bounce as it booted six goals to one in the first quarter to set up an impressive win.
Healesville battled hard in the second quarter to get back into the game kicking with a breeze but could only manage to get one goal closer.
UPWEY showed Healesville how to make the most of the conditions in the third with a seven-goal quarter and holding the Bloods scoreless. The last quarter was reasonably even with Healesville holding sway by just three points, but it was to be Upwey’s day quite convincingly. Upwey finish the season on top and look to be in superb form coming into the finals.
Upwey Tecoma 17.19.121 d Healesville 7.13.55.
Best: Upwey Tecoma: T. Heinrich, T. Harris, S. Waters. Healesville: S. Hill, J. Conrau, D. Johnson.
GEMBROOK has shown some good form of late and continued with that good form to finish their season with a good win. Wandin has had a terrible year but showed good signs in the second half of the season and were by no means disgraced in this game. Gembrook took the game away from Wandin in the third quarter as they booted seven goals to three to go into the last quarter with an eight-goal lead. Wandin never got back into the game as both teams finished the day with six goals apiece in the last term.

Best: Gembrook Cockatoo: A. Shipp, R. Clark, S. Williams. Wandin: A. Bonsak, D. Crellin, D. Hammersley.
MONBULK was superb from the outset against Woori Yallock with a 4.2 to 0.1 first quarter. Woori couldn’t get itself into the game as Monbulk teamed together brilliantly, Adam Gee was great for the winners and Timothy Wragg was outstanding, booting seven majors.
Monbulk play Woori again next week in the qualifying final and Woori will need to make some major inroads if they are going to turn this week’s result around.
Monbulk 20.7.127 defeated Woori Yallock 13.12.90.
Best: Monbulk: A. Gee, C. Mitchell, T. Wragg. Woori Yallock: T. Williamson, D. Ryan, A. Witkowski.

THE Yarra Junction match against Emerald certainly wasn’t a great spectacle as conditions weren’t conducive to good football. Both teams went at it hard but it was Junction that seemed to be the more polished side and looked more dangerous when they went forward.

Junction added another two goals in the last quarter while Emerald kicked just the one. Junction finished the day with an ugly 19-point win and will take on Seville next week. Emerald can now lick their wounds and look forward to the 2010 season.
