HEALESVILLE Community Market is now operating two quite different types of markets in Healesville.
It’s more than a quarter of a century since the community market started up in the car park at the back of the main street shops.
It has grown enormously over the years in both size and popularity.
For the locals it is a monthly pilgrimage on the first Sunday of the month to shop for anything from vegetables, eggs and plants to the unexpected ‘treasure’ that is part of the market’s broad ‘trash and treasure’ model.
More than a year ago the committee took over the running of the community market held at Healesville racecourse on the third Sunday each month.
You won’t find any ‘trash’ at this market which, broadly speaking comes under the ‘arts and craft’ banner.
What you will find is stallholders who take pride in offering quality home-made, home-grown products in the very picturesque setting of the racecourse.
While each market is different, they share the a friendly, country atmosphere where locals enjoy the opportunity to catch up and visitors enjoy the change of pace.
The community also benefits with stall fees being donated back to community groups and enterprises.
Market co-ordinator Ken Sanderson is keen to build the Racecourse market to provide more variety and interest and is encouraging locals people to support it, and people who have a product to sell to contact him on 5962 5875 to organise a stall.
The next market at the racecourse is on Sunday, 21 March and the next Healesville Community Market is on Sunday, 4 April.
