IT WAS an automatic win for Yarra Junction Netball Club on the weekend, with the teams playing their first games on their own court last Saturday, 10 April.
Yarra Junction Football and Netball Club president Paul Hermon said players were “excited” to be playing on their own home courts.
“Normally the girls have to play at Wesburn or at the high school,” Mr Hermon said.
“While it’s never really been a problem it will be nice for people to just be able to walk up a few metres from the football oval to watch the girls play netball.”
Mr Hermon said the club had worked for about two years to secure the new court for the netball club’s 25 members.
“We’re really appreciative of the shire for their support,” he said. “We hope it encourages new members to join.”
Special guests on the opening day included the Sports Minister James Merlino, Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato and O’Shannassy Ward councillor Chris Templer.
Big win for netballers
