MARYSVILLE’S Gallipoli Park Oval has been the focal point for many events over the years but never before opera!
On Sunday 25 April that will change.
The park, which is more at home to footy and cricket, will be centre stage for a very special presentation of La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini.
Presented by the South Australian opera company Co-Opera and Marysville and District Lions Club, it promises to be one of life’s truly unique experiences for those who attend.
The opera, which was originally planned to be held outdoors, will now be performed in a heated marquee.
Rochford Winery manager Graham Taylor is assisting with the event which was booked before the 2009 bushfires.
“It is, and was always, an ambitious project and that’s why no-one wanted to cancel it,” Mr Taylor said.
“It was decided Marysville had an audience who wanted to see this sort of production and it would be a shame to put it off.”
The production is part of an east coast tour by Co-Opera and Mr Taylor said it was an impressive and quite large production.
“Being the Sunday night of a long weekend (Anzac weekend) we believe the event will be a great night for locals and visitors who we hope will make a weekend of it,” he said.
The event is a community effort with a number of local organisations including the cricket club, pony club CFA, SES and others contributing and benefiting from the night.
For bookings and full details of the event phone Peter Cureton on 5774 7316 or Helen Maunsell on 5774 7387.
