IT WAS a mixed result for the Cobras on the weekend as they took to the court against the Frankston Blues.
The women were able to do the job easily while the men went down in a two-point over-time battle.
The Cobras trailed the entire match but came back from five points down with just 35 seconds to play, forcing overtime.
Fernandez Lockett forced overtime with a three-point basket in the final seconds of regulation time but after working back into the match with solid defence, Kilsyth gave up 18 points in the overtime period to fall by two points. Tim Lang and Ryan Bathie both with 20 points led the way for the Cobras, but Frankston’s Rob Kampman with 31 points was the game-high scorer.
Kilsyth allowed the lead to swell to eight points at the long break and looked to regroup at half time.
As has been its trademark in 2010, the Cobras picked up the defensive pressure in the third term restricting the Blues to just 16 points and reducing the margin to four at the final break.
Despite Kilsyth scoring nine points in the final minute of overtime the Blues were able to hold on for their third win of the season and deny the Cobras.
But it was a different story for the ladies, scoring an 85-47 win over the Frankston Lady Blues.
Cobras star import Ellie Manou maintained her excellent form to date, leading the ladies to their eighth win of the season.
Kilsyth quickly jumped out to an early lead in the opening term with Alice Kunek and Deanna Smith both finding the bottom of the net.
Manou was proving a difficult match-up for the Lady Blues and their extra attention allowed Hayley Moffatt to sneak under the radar helping the Cobras to a 16 point half-time lead.
Kilsyth put their foot down in the third term holding Frankston to just seven points for the quarter while scoring 22 of their own to extend the margin beyond 30.
