Lady Cobras strike hard

By Ben Turner
KILSYTH’S Lady Cobras recorded an impressive win over Albury on the weekend while the men’s squad went down in its biggest loss of the season.
Hayley Moffatt, Alice Kunek, and Gemma Kerr all stepped up to help the women to a 81-64 win.
The ladies showed they could cover the absence of their leading scorer in the opening term, racing to a 28-15 lead at the first break.
Albury regained its composure in the second term as Kilsyth’s hot shooting streak was halted.
Despite slowing down the Lady Cobras, Albury was unable to cut into the margin with Kilsyth taking a 13-point advantage into the second half.
Kilsyth took its foot off the pedal early in the third term and Albury was able to capitalise, reducing the margin to eight mid-way through the term.
But the girls dug deep to go on a 12-to-2 run to take an 18-point margin at the final change.
Despite a last minute charge by the Bandits, it was the Cobras’ game, taking home a 17-point win.
But it was a different story in the men’s camp.
They suffered their worst loss so far this season, go down 93-65 to an impressive Bendigo.
Ryan Bathie led all scorers as he and Auryn MacMillan helped Kilsyth to an early seven-point lead. But Bendigo hit back, scoring on their final six possessions of the opening term to take a three-point lead into the first change.
The Braves caused the Cobras plenty of headaches, building a seven-point lead half way through the second term.
But Kilsyth wasn’t to be beaten, coming back to tie up the scores with just 40 seconds remaining in the quarter.
However an unsportsmanlike foul from Tim Lang led to another lead change with the Braves taking a seven-point advantage into the half time break.
The Braves continued their good run, proving too strong for the Cobras, taking home a 28-point victory.
