Upwey unstoppable

TO KICK off round seven, Upwey-Tecoma travelled to Gembrook-Cockatoo and enjoyed yet another win in their 2010 campaign.
The Upwey girls proved that even the horrible weather couldn’t prevent them from dominating the game and causing it to become a one-sided affair. From the start the Gembrook Cockatoo girls were struggling, and they simply couldn’t catch a break against the wonderful netball the Upwey girls played. Upwey-Tecoma won 75-14.
Despite losing to Upwey-Tecoma the previous week, the girls from Olinda Ferny Creek came out firing to defeat Woori Yallock by 35 goals.
Although they had the home-court advantage, there was simply no stopping the Olinda Ferny Creek girls from shooting accurately and from restricting Woori’s goalers to a mere 22 goals.
Olinda Ferny Creek won 57-22.
In what was to be the closest game of the round for Division 1 A Grade, Warburton-Millgrove hosted Wandin. Both teams were persistent in their different playing styles, but Wandin proved to be too strong for the Warby girls. Wandin won 36-26.
Proving once again that they are a force to be reckoned with, Mount Evelyn registered yet another win, this time against Healesville. The home side struggled against the reigning premiers, but put up a good fight despite the visiting team being more skilled and efficient with their shooting and passing. Final score 58-38.
Monbulk had the bye.

Seville hosted Powelltown in a game full of surprises and a fight for dominance. With both teams undefeated, it was always going to be an interesting duel to see who would continue to remain that way. Despite Seville leading at every break, Powelltown surged in the last quarter capitalising on Seville’s untimely and costly mistakes, winning the game convincingly 46-37.
Yarra Junction struggled against the visiting Emerald team in what was to eventually become a 15-goal loss. The girls from Emerald proved to be too strong for the Yarra Junction girls, with their defenders playing excellent netball and their centre court players moving the ball efficiently from one end of the court to the other. Emerald won the game 44-29.
Yea, having narrowly lost against the reigning premiers the previous week, redeemed themselves defeating Thornton Eildon.
Despite the Thornton Eildon girls putting up a fight and showing improvement from last week, they were simply no match for Yea, who are having a wonderful season having lost only one game. Yea won 55-32.
In the closest game of the round, Kinglake held off a persistent Alexandra by a goal. With both sides struggling to get the ball down to their shooters as their defenders were simply too good for their opponents, the final scores were always going to be close.
However, when both teams’ goalers did receive the ball, they were all very accurate, with the game turning into an old-fashioned shoot-out.
Kinglake prevailed 27-26.
Belgrave, who are still searching for their first win of the season, narrowly lost to Yarra Glen. Showing signs of improvement each week, it was simply bad luck that the Belgrave girls lost by only five goals.
Yarra Glen played well to hold their opposition at bay winning 39-34.
