Raiders ladies

KNOX Raiders ladies took home the honours on the weekend with an impressive win over Sandringham while the men fell short on a night of milestones.
The women scored their fourth win a row with a 76-65 victory over the Lady Sabres, to put them fifth on the league ladder.
The Raiders stormed out to an early 13-2 lead in the first four minutes of play with Lill Keane, Amy Denson and Odette Andrew giving Sandringham several match-up worries.
Despite the Raiders’ good run, the Sabres fought back to close the gap to just seven by the end of the quarter.
It was anyone’s game in the second term with both sides shooting poorly, but the Raiders still came out with a nine-point lead. In the third, the Raiders got their scoring rhythm back with 24 points in the term to maintain a 13-point lead going into the main break.
The Sabres put on a fourth-quarter fight cutting the lead back to five but Keane and Denson put on eight points between them to help secure an 11-point victory.
Despite celebrating a 200-game milestone, the men’s squad failed to bring home the win in tight contest.
In his 200th game, captain Sean Carroll notched up 14 points, three rebounds and four assists but it was not enough to get his team across the line.
The Raiders started slow with the Sandringham Sabres taking an eight-point lead into the first break.
Despite a 27-point quarter from star import C. J. Massingale, and a combined 20 points from John Philip and Carroll, the Raiders cut the Sabres’ lead by only a point.
The Raiders fought back in the third cutting the home side’s lead to just two points going into the final break.
But the Sabres got off to a good start with the first five points of the final term, pushing their lead out to seven.
It was the Massingale’s time to step up, scoring 12 points in two minutes to tie up the game with just seven minutes remaining.
But the Sabres were able to make the big plays in the final three minutes while the Raiders missed crucial free throw attempts to go down 92-88.
