Kookas improve

By Rebecca Torsello
MONBULK Women’s Kookaburras secured a much-improved result when they played second-top Donvale Ladies in the Gwen Wright Cup.
The last time these two teams clashed Donvale won 11-0 but this time the Kookas restricted the score to a 1-3 loss.
Initially Donvale dominated in the midfield but Monbulk quickly applied excellent pressure, frustrating their opponents.
Alexa Allan scored the Kookas’ goal with an excellent strike from a tight angle.
The Monbulk Arrows moved to third on the ladder when they defeated the Mitcham Tigers 4-0.
The conditions at the Menzies Creek ground were terrible, but the Arrows soon mastered the mud to score two goals in each half.
Scorers were Tristan Fraser and James Hulbert, each with two.
The U18 Pythons retained their unbeaten record and remained on the top of the ladder after defeating Ringwood 8-0.
All players produced outstanding performances and the team worked well together to win.
Lachie Webb scored four goals, two from free kicks, Jacco Kerstens got three
and Lachie Boyd one.
The Senior Women’s drew 0-0 with Brighton in what was a disappointing result for the side.
Despite looking dangerous and with a chance to score many times, Monbulk could not convert.
In other games the under-11 Foxes went down 0-1 to Eltham, the under-14 Power defeated Knox 5-1 and the men’s Friars drew with the Yarra Valley 4-4.
