THE Upper Yarra Dam took 10 years to construct and was the life blood of the city, according to local historian Val Smith.
In a unique experience, rare footage of the dam will be shown for the last time at the Upper Yarra Valley Historical Museum on Sunday 11 July.
The footage shows how the construction came about, including the size of the dam.
“In one part it’s got the wall and two big city blocks at the bottom to show how big it is,” Ms Smith said.
She said the second-half of the film was private footage that didn’t originally have sound, but one of her colleagues recorded a voice-over based on comments from the original workers.
The film goes for 75 minutes and will be shown at 11am and 1.30pm at the Old Yarra Junction Railway Station.
Entrance to the museum is $5 adults, $3 concession, $10 family, and the money goes towards the restoration of the museum carriage roof.
Space is limited to view the film so bookings are essential. Contact Val Smith on 5967 1308.
