Holland blitzes field

By Dennis Fuller
ON A soggy day last Saturday, Emerald golfer Bouncer Holland (16) produce a deluge of fabulous shots to sink the rest of the field.
His 76 off the stick yielded a net 60 to give him the VGL Monthly Medal by some considerable distance.
Naturally he was king of the A Graders but the handicapper has caught up to him and he will be playing off 14 in the next round.
John Fisher (34) won more balls as head of the B-Grade list and has continued his good form of late.
Quite a few smashed their handicaps including Dean Shannon (net 64), Wayne Degering 66, Ryan Aitken and Ken Sumsion on 68 and Dennis Fuller and Allan Ecclestone both managed 69.
Kameron Geeves was nearest the pin on the fourth, Bernie Badgery the seventh, Mike Litchfield the 12th, Ecclestone the 13th and Dave Hunt picked up the pro pin cash and the handsome wineglass for being closest on the 18th.
The ladies’ comp was headed home by Peta Jones who showed the rest of the ladies a clean pair of heels.
Last Wednesday in the Officially Faded Golf (OFG) using OFG handicaps, John Piggott (26) headed the field home with a well-compiled 39 stableford points.
Next Saturday is the first round of the three round Sam Ritchie Winter cup.
Stableford is the order of the day and golfers will be queueing up to get their claws on the cup named in honour of one of the club’s life members. Sam Ritchie was a doyen of the club for many years in the previous century and stories of his exploits are still mentioned by members who knew him.
Each week the Emerald Golf Club is awarding a committee’s award for a golfer who does something a little exceptional or at least entertaining.
This week’s award goes to Carol Hampson, who most weeks plays golf with her three sons and often says hello to our members while sitting down to a cut lunch with her boys after golf.
She finished her game in the rain on Saturday and came into the pro-shop dripping wet with a smile on her face.
The committee quickly got their heads together as they figured she had earned some recognition for her contribution to golf.
