Nod for star import

KNOX Raiders’ star import, Amy Denson has taken out June’s Player of the Month.
The 185cm centre-forward proved too strong for her opposition, winning a league-high average of 14 rebounds per game and averaging more than 19 points per game for the month.
Denson also led the Raiders to a 3-2 win-loss record.
In round 13 she recorded a season best with 20 rebounds, 21 points and two assists in the Raiders victory over Sandringham.
Denson’s good run continued the following week scoring her seventh 20-plus point game for the year despite the Raiders’ loss to Launceston.
She battled all game against the league’s leading scorer Liz Cambage but it wasn’t enough.
The American import played with Arizona State for four years from 2002/2006 before graduating and turning pro.
Since then Denson has played in Puerto Rico, Poland and Romania, before moving to Australian in 2009 to play with the Kilsyth Cobras before jumping ship to the Raiders this year.
Lady Raiders’ head coach Heath Anderson said Denson had earned the Player of the Month title with her score-leading performances.
“Her work rate is great and this award is thoroughly deserved … she is a focal part of our offence and shoots at a high percentage,” he said.
“The team is looking for Denson to continue to deliver as we approach our final three games of the season and hopefully mount a big finals campaign.”
Denson is expected to finish her good form with the final game of the season against the Albury-Wodonga lady Bandits in Albury on 31 July before preparing to take up the championship challenge.
