YARRA Valley darts players last week ventured into Maroondah territory for their annual challenge match.
Yarra Valley Amateur Social Dart League (YVASDL) beat the Maroondah Social Darts Association (MSDA) with 5-4 at Dorset Recreation Reserve in Croydon last Wednesday night (14 July).
Each side had nine teams of six people, which each played three sets of doubles and six sets of singles.
The first team to win 11 games won the round. Yarra Valley won five out of the nine teams to return home winners.
YVASDL president Russell Tarr said it was a good night of almost three-and-a-half hours of games.
“There were some good darts thrown and a lot of strong competition,” he said. “Some of the teams got thrashed and others won even.”
Mr Tarr said the competition began in the 1980s but became irregular.
“This is our third year playing straight – we lost last year but won the year before,” he said.
MSDA contest director Jean Powell brought the two sides together and looks forward to further challenges. Maroondah’s competitors didn’t all go away empty-handed, with one of their players taking home the sought-after raffle prize – a seafood platter.
The YVASDL has teams in Belgrave, Mount Evelyn, Silvan, Coldstream and the Upper Yarra. They took on MSDA teams from Bayswater, Knox, Wantirna and Lilydale.
