Shredders fire on Gunners defence

By Rebecca Torsello
MONBULK Rangers’ under-15 Shredders defeated the Gunners 2-1 in an intra club match.
The Shredders started well by scoring an early goal and the signs looked ominous for the Gunners. The Gunners played well, applying excellent pressure against a tough opponent. In what was a close game, the Shredders persevered and proved too good for the Gunners defence. The growing sense of confidence in their own ability and their commitment as a team showed just how much the Gunners have improved in the past few games. All the Gunners should be commended on their game with Matt Thomson making some excellent saves in goal.

THE Monbulk Rangers women’s reserves suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss at the hands of Bundoora. They fought hard in the first half, with Sally Williams scoring the reserves goal from a free kick outside the 18 yard box. Despite taking a 1-0 lead into half time, the reserves were unable to match Bundoora’s intensity in the second half.
Despite the loss, the reserves played well but Bundoora proved too much. Best on ground was Laura Vear.

THE under-18 Pythons continue to be undefeated after their 2-1 defeat of Manningham. Monbulk Captain Jacco Kerstens scored first within the first five minutes. He was assisted by striker John Macalisang who unfortunately was injured later in the match. At half time, the score was drawn. Monbulk came out firing and James Hulbert scored the other goal from a header to seal the win for the Pythons.
