THE Rotary Clubs of Wandin and Healesville offered a bushfire-affected community in Gippsland a tool library and wood splitter to put towards a Men’s Shed, along with support from the Sporting Shooters Association.
More than 60 people gathered in the Labertouche hall in July for the presentation of the gifts and the opportunity for locals and visitors to mix and share stories.
Bob Wettenhall from Wandin Rotary, who presented the tool library, said it could be the start of an ongoing relationship.
Labertouche Men’s Shed organiser Alan Blackwell spoke of the great support received by the people of Labertouche and the value the donations would have in the ongoing recovery from the Bunyip Ridge bushfire.
“In fact, we’ve already had a working bee using the splitter,” he said. “Twelve blokes turned up to cut, chop, split and stack firewood.”
Mr Blackwell said the tools and friendship would play an important part in strengthening the community and their recovery.
