SUPPORT from residents of Marysville and the wider Triangle region has resulted in the initiation of several new programs at YMCA Marysville.
The first two months since the celebrated reopening of the Cumberland Resort swimming pool and day spa as YMCA Marysville in June, boasted more than 600 individual visits with lap-swimming, aquatic education and free play the main activities.
September will see the launch of a new Water Aerobics class as well as a small gymnasium.
The water aerobics class will be a 50-minute session in the heated pool, open to all ages and abilities, or those recovering from an injury, and providing a good workout with minimal impact on the body.
The weekly class is scheduled for 1pm Wednesdays with an evening class also starting in the coming weeks. The gymnasium will open on Wednesday 29 September, and the community will be able to access programs during the opening hours of the centre.
A health and wellness instructor will be available every Wednesday evening from 5pm to 7.30pm to assist with the use of equipment, health assessments and preparation of personal programs for members.
New aquatic programs are also planned to start over the coming weeks.
The popular AquaSafe Holiday program, which is a water safety and skill development program over five school holiday lessons for children aged 5 to 12 years, will run between Monday, 27 September and Friday, 1 October.
The YMCA AquaSafe and AquaPlay programs for children six months to four years will be run over term 4 of the school year, with session times and dates depending on enrolments.
To accommodate the increase in activity and expected rise in patronage, the centre will now open for an extra four hours between 3.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesdays, while hours on Fridays have been altered to between 6am and 10am.
The YMCA Marysville features a 20 metre pool and is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
The YMCA is a community based charity that builds strong people families and communities, largely through recreational opportunities and strongly advocates for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy healthy and active lives.
