A grand day at Emerald

By Dennis Fuller
GOLFERS at Emerald faced up to a round of stableford in glorious conditions for the first time this year, while another sporting event was being staged elsewhere.
John Carvill (20) scored 40 points to win the overall gong and also lead the B Graders home.
Martin Yeats (nine) found the going to his liking and strode in with 38 points to take A Grade.
Peter Jones and Bill Badgery had 38 points, Leigh Morison and Kameron Geeves 37, Con Whitlock 36, while Dennis Fuller and Bernie Badgery had 35.
Bernie Badgery was nearest the pin after one shot on the 4th, Ross Martin the 7th, Damien Gray the 12th and John Fisher the 13th. Ryan Aitken celebrated by beating Ben Balfour in matchplay and taking out the pro pin cash on the 18th.
The ladies’ event was hard fought, but after the final calculations were made, Barbara Cook led the small but select field in.
Con Whitlock (20) and Mark Lothian (14) drew for the main prize on Wednesday for Omnipotently Fabled Golf (OFG), using OFG handicaps. They each had 32 points and decided to split the prize.
The VGL monthly medal is up for grabs on Saturday, and if the present weather continues, players are in for a treat.
