Mr West said orchid growers faced a difficult year, with what we now regard as an unseasonably cold and wet winter and spring “throwing everything out of kilter.”
Members from around the Yarra Valley, the eastern suburbs and some from Melbourne, rallied to exhibit hundreds of orchids, filling the Seville hall with perfume and colour.
The range of orchids included the popular Cymbidium to native, tropical and exotic orchids from South America and Asia.
“We were especially happy to see quite a lot of young people wandering through, because the club is keen to rebuild its membership and that includes bringing in young orchid enthusiasts,” Mr West said.
The club meets at the Woori Yallock Primary School on the second Friday of each month at 8pm and Mr West said plenty of help and advice was available for anyone wanting to develop their interest in orchids.
Mr West can be contacted on 0418 567 856.
