By Dennis Fuller
WHILE the mud runners were doing their thing at Flemington, there was also some wet weather action at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday. Things remained fine overhead, despite the promise of Ark weather, but there was more than a splash or two around the course.
Jeff Marsh (25), true to his name, loved the way the course was playing.
He came in with a whopping +7 in the par comp, leading the field in B Grade despite a concerted effort from Brian McCoy (29), whose +5 would have won on most days.
Martin Yeats (9) led the A Grade rabble in with +4. He managed to edge out Dennis Fuller(14) who was one behind on +3.
Many found the damp conditions to their liking, including Paul Farmer and Dave Jennings who finished on +4. Con Whitlock and John Carvill both came in with +3.
Ken Hill also made the most of the conditions and was nearest the pin on the 7th and 12th. Steve Town was clos-est on the 4th and David Jennings the 13th, while Martin Yeats came excruciatingly close to acing the 18th on his way to the pro-pin cash.
It was a tight affair in the ladies’ competition with several players coming in with -4, but after the slide rule was applied to the scorecards it was Aileen Ecclestone who stood tall atop the winner’s rostrum.
Moss Fuller (24) won Wednesday’s Overly Fastidious Golf (OFG), using OFG handicaps, with 39 stableford points ahead of Ron Wilson’s (29) 38.
Wilson trumped the field in the putting comp when his consistency overwhelmed the field.
Dennis Fuller defeated Ken Hill 2/1 in the semi-final of the club match-play event and will advance to the final to play either Ryan Aitken or Con Whitlock who are yet to play in their match-up.
The November VGL monthly medal has been put back a week while the greens are cored. A stableford event is on the agenda.
Marsh swamps the rest
