Races draw the crowd

HEALESVILLE Amateur Racing Club managed to make it through their six-race card on Saturday ahead of the deluge which left the track under water by Sunday morning.
Club president John O’Neill told the Mail while attendances were down, with 1500 taking a punt on predictions of rain throughout the day, the committee felt they had backed a winner by seeing the day out.
The Derby Day meeting launched the race season for Healesville, and for the Victorian picnic racing calendar.
“We didn’t get rain until the last two races. We were fully sold out with marquees and, as always, everyone got into the spirit of race day at Healesville and had a great time,” he said.
Popular jockey Adam Bodey had a great day too.
Bodey, a regular at Healesville, rode four out of the six winners, including three favourites.
