THREE Upper Yarra fire brigades have received a donation of $6000 from the Yarra Junction market.
Captains and volunteers from Hoddles Creek, Yellingbo and Yarra Junction Fire Brigades were grateful to receive the money and $2000 will go towards each brigade.
Upper Yarra Community Market president Pam Jagger said the money came from the stalls that people pay for at the market.
“It’s about giving it back to the community,” she said.
Ms Jagger said the market donated money to Reefton, Warburton and Wesburn/Millgrove fire brigades last year.
“They’re all doing such a good job and need funds to upgrade their uniforms and equipment,” she said. “We knew with the fires in mind that it was important but we didn’t have enough to give at once so we spread it around.”
Yellingbo fire brigade is saving up for another vehicle to replace its existing slip-ons, Yarra Junction is continuing its upgrades, and Hoddles Creek is fundraising for specialized equipment for its trucks.
