A FUSION of blacksmithing and pottery will form the basis of a new exhibition.
Mont De Lancey artist Tania Bishop and blacksmith Dietmar Fleckhammer have joined their mediums to produce a number of joined pottery and iron sculptures.
They belong to the Yarra Valley Artisans, a group who differ in age and medium but all have Mont De Lancey in common.
Tania says she designs the pieces, which are then engineered by Dietmar and fired together.
“We go and play around with the metal and produce all sorts of pieces,” she says.
“I make bird baths for Dietmar and sculpt lizards onto them, he’s so good structurally and I like using native animals and plants.”
Dietmar has become a leader in decorative ironware with more than 35 years of experience, while Tania has been involved with pottery and sculpting for more than 15 years.
“We all base our work on what we do – I’m in line with Australiana, and work on native animals and plants,” she says.
The exhibition will also feature talented up-and-coming artists in a range of mediums including textiles, felting and silks.
“We all do what we love and help each other out,” she says.
The Yarra Valley Artisans Exhibition will be held from 11 to 19 December at Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead, 71 Wellington Road, Wandin.
The homestead is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. For more information call 5964 2088.
