Firies on refresher training

MURRINDINDI firefighters have been put through training to re-new their knowledge on the job.
The training was held at Murrindindi scenic reserve on the northern end of the Toolangi State Forest on 21 December, where more than 90 firefighters attended to take part in the practical teamwork.
“Teamwork is imperative in fire fighting,” Murrindindi District Manager John Steer said.
Throughout the day, five training exercises were completed, including sessions on first response, water pump operation and first- attack dozers.
“In an emergency, firefighters need to know how best to operate new equipment both to assist with the suppression of the fire and also for their own safety,” Mr Steer said.
The Murrindindi district covers Broadford, Kilmore, Seymour, Yea, Toolangi, Kinglake, Alexandra and Marysville.
The operation was held for new seasonal firefighters and permanent staff.
DSE and DPI staff all took part in the day. The training aims to prepare firefighters for the upcoming season.
