A 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, an early Mazda RX7, a brand new Mazda MX5 and a Russian-made Volgar are just four of the 300 cars lining up for Cars of the World at Rochford Winery, Coldstream, on Saturday.
The event, originally scheduled for Melbourne Cup weekend last year, was washed out. Now organisers are revving their engines for what promises to be a great day out for car enthusiasts.
Cars of the World spokesman Charles Rogers said the event attracts cars which are not just headturners on the road, but which in many cases, have interesting stories to tell.
“It’s pretty rare to have a Russian car from the communist era of the ’60s,” he gave as an example. “I’ve only seen one on email and I’m looking forward to seeing the real thing.”
A pre-30s MG tourer that conquered the Peking to Paris run is another vehicle with a story as interesting as the car itself, as is Healesville racing enthusiast Laurie Bennett’s Elfin Formula Ford racing car.
And then there are the cars which are “the pride and joy” of their owners.
There is no restriction on the type of car and Mr Rogers is encouraging Yarra Valley car owners to give their cars a scrub up and put them on show.
“It doesn’t have to be a classic car, it can be a late model Ford, a hot-rod or a racing car. There is plenty of room at Rochford and the greater the variety, the better,” he said.
The event is a fundraiser with the $25 car entry fee going to Blind Citizens Australia, which advocates for blind and vision-impaired people.
Entry for spectators is free. Local rock band The Royals will perform in the Rochford sound shell.
Rochford will have food and beverages available a-la-carte or in the restaurant, or visitors can take a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawns. No alcohol or glass is permitted.
The Healesville CFA will also benefit from the event, with gold coin donations requested for their assistance with parking.
Cars of the World will be held between 9.30am and 3pm.
