AS YVCA cricketers entered the penultimate round of their season, rain again looked likely to intervene.
But skies cleared early for a great day of cricket on Saturday, sure to prove pivotal in the final make-up of the D. J. Strachan Shield ladder.
Coldstream travelled to Mount Evelyn and batted first. Unable to stem the steady flow of wickets, it was dismissed for 125. Aaron Booth was Mount Evelyn’s stand-out performer with the ball, snaring 5/24.
At stumps, Mount Evelyn was 1/55 in reply.
Seville batted first in its home match against traditional rival Woori Yallock and was in immediate trouble as the visitors snared six top-order wickets with only 40 runs scored against them.
Some defiant batting by Dean Troyahn and Shane Senior up to the tea break gave a glimmer of hope to the home side and the partnership continued after tea.
Senior fell soon after the drinks break for 32 but Troyahn continued to dominate the bowling before eventually falling for a gallant 119.
Seville ended the day all out on 233 and with a target to bowl to.
Yarra Junction is hosting Hoddles Creek, with the home side once again batting first. Hoddles Creek bowled well to dismiss the Eagles for 150 with David Lever making 33 and his brother Daniel 26.
Nick Bark snared 5/40 for the Wombats and was well assisted by Brenton Derix’s 3/42. At stumps, Hoddles Creek was 2/30 in reply with both wickets falling to Stuart Thompson who finished the day with 2/10.
Second-placed Silvan bowled against its visitors, Warburton-Millgrove, which was all out for 246. Brendan Woods made 69 for Warby and was backed up by Adam Humphreys with 36.
Silvan will start play next Saturday on 2/29, needing 218 to win with eight wickets in hand.
